China's Geography

China is the worlds 3rd largest country right behind Russia and Canada. China is located in eastern Asia bordering the east China sea and the Korea Bay. Some of its bordering country’s are North Korea and Vietnam. The Total area of china is 9,596,960 sq kilometers. China is slightly larger then the U.S. It’s coastline is 14,500 km long. The climate is very diverse in china. In the south it is tropical when in the north it is sub arctic. They have mostly a mountainous terrain with some deserts and some high plateaus. They have many natural resources including coal, iron ore and petroleum.  Do to the use of coal, acid rain is produced because of the high pollution.

The land use in China is mainly for meadows and pasteurs but it is also used as arableland, forest and woodland, and the other 45% is used for other land uses. In the Urban areas there is an overwhelming amount of water shortages because of all the pollution. Most of China does not even have access to potable water. Due to the lack of water in China less than 10% of their sewage is processed and treated. when China really began to urbanize, in 1957, 1/5 of China's forests were demolished from development and soil erosion.

China also has large Typhoons along the eastern coast about five times a year. Other natural hazards that take place are damaging floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, and very long lasting droughts.
